Matt Mawson: “We all recycle our garbage. Well, most of us do If you live in a modern first world country that adheres to it’s social responsibilities.
But when we do recycle from source here in Mexico we are taking food out of the mouths of those unfortunate people who live at the very bottom of our society in the Mexican city Mazatlán.
Not those unfortunate people who live and beg on the streets, but those people even more unfortunate than anyone can imagine. I suppose they themselves cannot even imagine doing what they do.
They are the Mazatlán citizens who live and work on the city garbage tip collecting second hand food to feed themselves and their families and recycling vast amounts of plastics and tins that we toss in our kitchen garbage bags. The meager amount they make from recycling is just enough to give them access to a few calories of sustenance.“
